Fight Sqaud - Year In Review

Our fight squad for 2011 grew into a mature squad. We gained top 3 positions inevery event we attended, gaining many accolades. In short we came away with 2x WKA English Open Champions, 4x ICO British Champions, along with either golds, silver or bronzes at the BKC, Bristol Open, Kwon Open and many other competitions. It has been a good performance by all the competitors in the squad. Some of our successful squad are pictured below.

Staff BMAA Comp

How refreshing it was to take the fight squad to a small comp with top world class fighters present. Yes the results didn't go all our way however all our fighters learnt great things from those more experienced fighters around them. With more practice, dedication, attitude and determination to succeed, then im sure that the fight squad will achieve great things. All said and done, i must conratulate Chantelle on her Silver in points, Sam on his Bronze in points and Ryan for his Bronze in Light Contact. Considering Ryan was heavily dazed in his first round fight, he managed to pull his way through to the win. He came up short in his semi final bout but bounced back to win his final fight for bronze. The rest of the team also did well, Will, Thomas, Brandon and Michelle.

Tina's Black Belt Grading

After a gruelling 6 hours examination, for those that were not on hand to witness the event, then you can now see some of the pictures in our gallery. As you can see the grit and determination on her face shows only the physical pain and determination. The mental side of any black belt grading could never be captured on camera as different people handle it in different ways. Either way, Tina's focus and discipline resulted in her achieving her black belt but paid the price physically by being out of action for a couple of weeks through injury.

In House Tournament

Another superb event where our guests and friends from the KSKA and DGF joined us in our bumper friendly competition. The initial platfrom to get vital competition experience for debutant and novice fighters.  With over 30 fighters and and 50 odd spectators, the hall was packed to the rafters to witness some cracking fights and close matches. It was an excellent opportunity for all clubs to see how the Karate Traditionalist Style adapted to competing with Freestylers and vice versa. Even  though rules varied slightly to what they were used to, they handled the situation extremely well. A big congratulations to all the competitors and whilst talking to everyone, there were some goals already set for the next in house. 'I can do better', 'I want to win', 'annoyed with my performance', words of true warriors who analyse their performances constructively so to come back stronger. Next In House tournament is on September 4th whilst our next open tournament is on September 18th.

Martial Arts Classes

We now have mma classes on Saturdays at 10am. The 1st class was a great success and you all have started to learn the aspect of ground figting. These classes will continue to be taught by Mick Broster, a highly respected grappling coach in the country. In these classes you shall be learning techniques that are demonstrated on shows such as the UFC, BAMMA and other larger shows that you may have seen on TV. There will be wrestling drills, striking, takedowns, throws and submissions. So come down, classes only cost £5 per session and for July only, they are totally free.

Josh's Birthday Party

Saturday 18th June saw Josh celebrate his 6th Birthday with an ASBBA Martial Arts Birthday Party. A 2 hour fun fest left all the party go-ers totally shattered. Many games were played throughout the period and everyone thouroughly enjoyed themselves. You can view pictures of Josh's Birthday Party in our gallery. You can book a Martial Arts Birthday Party by seeing or calling Anotnio. You don't need to be a member of the club to enjoy an ASBBA Martial Arts Birthday Party.

Black Belt Grading

Another gruelling Black belt Grading examination. on June 4th, Tina Gosai attempted her Black belt Grading. After years of training, the day of reckoning was upon her - A 6 hour test of mind, body and soul. Through dedication, Tina and her grading partner (Rie Woolaway) spent hours during and after class going through each belt making sure that each element was mastered and down to a fine art. The run up to her Black Belt Grading saw Tina take on extra fitness classes, private classes and even personal exercise/dietary program to make sure her body was ready. After having numurous operations to deal with compartment syndrom, Tina battled on and even during the examination, her calves tightened up drastically causing her anguish. She now bears the bruises on her calves to prove it along with a torn hamstring (that she did 2 weeks beforehand).

Gradings

Congratulations to all those students who have best their recent belt grading. Tremendous attitude to a tough session where you all passed with flying colours. Next the grading is in September so make sure you start looking in your syllabus and preparing yourself now for it. Keep up the good hard honest work with yourselves and you will succeed in all you do.
