In House Tournament - Leg 1

Wow, even with the snow falling over night, nothing could stop hearty ASBBA students heading down to Harborne Primary School for the 1st Leg of the ASBBA In House Tournament for 2010. A magnificent turnout saw the event being a roaring success with some great match ups. Some old rivalries continued from last year and some new rivalries are going to be the name of the game for this year.

Every category but 1 was filled and everyone had to fight at leaast twice on the day. Well done to all those who took part. The only lil' warrior to turn up stepped up to the plate and moved up to the next category.

Not only are we producing new fighters to the sport but also a new breed of referees who also did a magnificent job for their 1st time.

The day began with the under 4ft 2s. At a blistering place all fights went back and forth with the eventual winner Lewis coming out on top.The next category (under 4ft 6s) was the largest category where Thomas had to win 3 fights to gain the upperhand in the category. The final between Jurel and Raven in the under 4ft 10s will be the theme for most of 2010. Onthis occasion Raven came out on top with crisp and precise techniques. An impressive return to competitions for Jake Green in the under 5ft 2s who came just short to an improving Shane. The over 5ft 2s saw some banging fights where last years overall winner Jas winning but I dont think he will have it all his way this year as there are some up and coming fighters hot on his tail. Rie won the ladies category but she had to work hard against Jade Dixon in the 1st round and realised that she had to mix it up with Samantha to win. An impressive performance by William saw him overcome Richard and Shawn to win the mens category.

Next was the Light Continuous. A cracking bout between Lewis and Ismail where it was non stop action throught the 2 rounds but experience saw Lewis fight off an impressive Ismail on his debut. Aaron vs Callam saw this fight go into 2 overtime rounds. The closest fight saw these two fighting over 4 rounds where Aaron edged the proceedings by a punch or two in the final round. A repeat of the Semi Contact final saw Thomas fight Stephen again. Stephen had the initial upperhand but Thomas must have got hit once too many times and stepped it up 3 gears to beat a valiant Stephen. Next came the battle of the brothers where Ibrahim narrowly beat Dawood. Both fighters put on a tremendous performance considering this was their 1st competition. Raven fought Jake next in a see saw battle that was close to call. I found it hard to call and it could have went either way. Lucky for me I didnt have to make the decisssion but a majority decission went to Raven. None of the over 5ft 2s wanted to fight continuous except Jas so he stepped it up a level to find an experienced Shawn fromthe adults category. A tremendous desplay of how Light Continuous should be done for all to see. However there had to be a winner and on this day, it was the turn of Shawn.

Full results.

League Standings.

Well  done to all and see you at the next one on 11th of April.
